SwissRe, 30 St Mary's Axe
A future-ready workplace transformation within The Gherkin, balancing architectural intelligence with human experience.
SwissRe, 30 St Mary's Axe

Through a carefully considered consolidation from 11 floors to 7, the workplace reimagines its footprint within The Gherkin, releasing four floors back to the market and unlocking long-term value. Efficiency is refined rather than reduced, with performance, safety and air circulation seamlessly maintained within a more agile, future-ready environment.
Guided by an intimate understanding of The Gherkin’s curved floor plates, double-curved façade and distinctive structural language, the design responds to the building rather than competing with it. Each intervention is shaped by the architecture itself, respecting its iconic form while translating it into spaces that support contemporary ways of working.
A fluid approach to space planning introduces a desk-sharing strategy that supports up to 75% occupancy without compromising comfort. Central hubs become the heart of each floor, bringing together meeting spaces, tea points and integrated technology to create adaptable settings for collaboration, focus and connection.
At its core, the workplace is driven by people. Wellbeing, engagement and community inform every design decision, from the agile layouts to the carefully considered acoustic environment. The result is a workplace that feels connected and energising - one that supports flexibility, nurtures human capital and allows its people to thrive.
